Sri Kaniyooru Matha |
|
The pontiff performs two ritual services daily wherever he is: Samsthaana puje, the morning service to Sri Yoga Narasimha, Sri Krishna, and other deities of Sri Kaniyooru Matha; and tottilu puje, the evening service offered to Sri Krishna. When in Udupi, the pontiff performs these services at Sri Madhva Mandira in Sri Pajaka Kshetra. These services are open to the public. The pontiff is available for bhikshe, tottilu puje, paada puje, and upanyaasa. These events may be held in the matha, in temples, or at the homes of people offering the service. The service may be offered anywhere in India. Please contact us if you are interested in organizing any of these services. Include the exact location of the service in your request. Also, please consider serving by contributing to the ongoing projects at the matha. Here is a brief description of the services. Bhikshe begins with the samsthaana puje service performed personally by the pontiff. The service is followed by meal offerings to the pontiff and his disciples, and to devotees. Organizers of this service would need to observe specific rituals, and meet specific service needs. The entire service can take up to four hours. Bhikshe is a substantive way to serve Sri Krishna, and a great occasion for extended families to get together for Sri Krishna's cause. Tottilu Puje is the ritual evening service offered to Sri Krishna, signaling the end of the day. The service is followed by a light dinner for the pontiff, his disciples, and devotees. This service can take up to two hours. Tottilu puje is one of the most popular services offered to Sri Krishna. Paada puje is the ritual of welcoming Sri Yoga Narasimha and Sri Krishna (the deities of Sri Kaniyooru Matha) along with the pontiff, and washing the pontiff's feet. The pontiff first performs a simple puje and aarati to the deities. Couples then wash the pontiff's feet, followed by other devotees seeking blessings. This service usually takes about 30 minutes. The exact time needed depends on the number of couples performing the service. Paada puje is a simple, yet very satisfying way for a family, and its close neighbors, to serve Sri Krishna and to contribute to his cause. Upanyaasa is a talk, in this case about a philosophical or spiritual topic, frequently drawn from the Dvaita canon. For example, the pontiff might talk about parts of Bhagavadgeete or Bhaagavata. The talk is followed by a discussion, and by blessings from the pontiff. Each session of upanyaasa typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes. Upanyaasas are typically arranged as a sequence spread over 3 to 7 days.
